Originally from New York, Slaywitme also considers the Windy City home, where he spent most of his adolescence. It was in Chicago where Slay had the serendipitous chance of witnessing ground zero for American drill music. Beginning with the viola, and later expanding his musical breadth to FL Studio, Slay considers the SoundCloud era sanctified, as he considers XXXTentacion, Lil Uzi, Carti, & Yachty all as luminaries. It was in 2016 where Slay started recording, continuing to cut his teeth and experiment with sounds that felt authentic to him. All of these bedroom studio experiments manifested into Slay being recognized as an early pioneer of sped up songs, long before they reached a state of critical mass. With a pretty boy demeanor, juxtaposed against sad boi lyrics, Slay’s modus operandi is to infuse early aughts culture into the context of his work, attaching nostalgic elements of a forgotten time into the context of today.
